Founded in 1969, Gurgel Motores was a Brazilian automobile manufacturer named after its founder, João do Amaral Gurgel, who Brazil’s first domestically designed and manufactured car.
What immediately caught my eye is the Gurgel brand: a pixel font before pixel fonts, an idiosyncratic blocky mark unlike any other automaker before or since. There's a pretty weird and inconsistent collection of characteristics that I loved and tried to emulate. Using the existing letters as a guide, I filled out the rest of the alphabet.
Camioneta is a single-weight, monospace-ish unicase display typeface. It has some uppercase and lowercase variations, numbers, most punctuation, and a decent handful of accented characters (every accent you’d need for Brazilian Portuguese, at least).
